Some of the reasons for a financial hardship that a lender may consider when negotiating a loan modification include, but are not limited to, the following:

Your household income has been reduced.

Death of a household contributor.
An interest rate that is going to adjust and the new payment will be unaffordable.
Your interest only loan will change to a principal and interest payment which will be unaffordable.
